This year, India aspires to win gold and
make an impact on the international playground.
Participants such as Mary Kom, Krishna Poonia and Bharat Chettri apart
from a few others have been dominating the news for the last few months. But,
let us not forget how we won a few slots in the Hall of fame in Beijing last
year.
We
made a mark in the sphere of shooting, boxing and wrestling. Abhinav Bindra
made us all proud when he brought home gold after an astounding performance at
the men's 10m Air Rifle final. VijenderSingh showed us
that with practise, perseverance and will power one can achieve anything. Sushil
Kumar too won us a Bronze in wrestling proving to be an example for many young
Indians.
These men show us that anything is
possible. They raised the bar and met expectations. This year, all of us hope
that our country is able to make a mark again, just like last year. Sport is
the only time where politics has the least influence. It is one of the few
things that join nations irrespective of culture, caste or creed. We uphold it
with enthusiasm as we wait for our turn this year.
